Basketball tournaments on tap this week

The first week of December means one thing — basketball tournaments.

Carson and Dayton’s boys and girls basketball teams are all playing in preseason tournaments starting Thursday afternoon.

The Carson varsity girls are playing in the High Sierra Winter Challenge which is being held at Reno, Spanish Springs, Wooster and Galena high schools. Carson plays Spring Creek at 3 p.m. Thursday at Reno High. On Friday, Carson plays Faith Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. at Spanish Springs. On Saturday, Carson plays Fallon at noon, and then comes back to play Bishop at 6 p.m.

The Carson boys are playing in the 28th annual Mad River Rotary Tournament in McKinleyville. The Senators, who will make their season debut at the three-day tournament, will play Heritage, an East Bay school, Thursday at 8:30 p.m.

The annual Sutro Classic at Dayton High kicks off Thursday afternoon. Bishop and Silver Stage play at 3, Owyhee and the Douglas JV squad play at 4:30, Bishop and Truckee play at 6 and ROP meets Dayton, 1-0, at 7:30. On Friday, Silver Stage plays the Douglas JV at 3, Bishop and Owyhee square off at 4:30, Truckee battles ROP at 6, and Dayton plays Owyhee at 7:30. On Saturday, there are games at 9 and 10:30 at Dayton Intermediate, and games at 9, 10:30, 12:30 and 2 at Dayton High.

The Dayton girls play in the Hawthorne Tournament starting Thursday, but no pairings were available.


RENO GAMES CANCELED

Tuesday’s basketball games against Reno, both home and away, have been postponed because of inclimate weather. No make-up date has been determined.


WRESTLING OPENER

Carson grapplers on the road

The Paul Carter era starts tonight at 5 p.m. when Carson High’s wrestling team goes up against Reno and Fallon at Reno High.

The Senators host their own tournament Saturday at 9 a.m.


FRESHMAN BASKETBALL

Dayton boys lose

The Dayton High boys dropped a 57-18 decision to Wooster last weekend. Carson Crosby led the Dust Devils with six points and nine rebounds, while Jason Sanborn added four points and seven rebounds.
