PREPS: Dayton subdues Spring Creek in 5

DAYTON - Dayton needed five games to get a win over Spring Creek Friday in Dayton. Game scores were 25-20, 21-25, 25-16, 20-25 and 18-16.

Ashley Vickers led the Dust Devils' attack with 11 kills and nine digs. Taryn Schriner had nine kills to go with her 12 digs. Alyse Fletcher had five aces, five kills and 10 assists, while Peach Coons had six aces and 15 assists.

"I am so proud of how hard the girls worked together. They are jelling and working really hard to complement each other", Dayton coach Monica Halverson said. "It is an awesome feeling to see your team transition into a team of depth. I know I can put any girl in any position and still be okay. They are work horses and it shows when they play."

Dayton is now 3-2 in league play, 17-4 overall.

defeats Carlin

VIRGINIA CITY - The Virginia City girls volleyball team handily defeated Carlin Friday, 3-0. Game scores were 25-8, 25-9 and 25-22.

Nikki D'Agostino had nine kills and one dig, Jamie Poston six kills and three digs, Keana Prohl got five kills to go with her three digs. Lea Laney had four kills with three digs and Corinna Obermayr finished with three kills and five digs.

The JV team also won in straight sets, 27-25 and 25-12.

The record for the varsity squad stands at 2-1 in league play, 10-3 overall. The JV team's record is 3-0 in league, 6-1 overall.

Dayton boys lose twice

The Dayton boys soccer team lost two league games in Fernley Friday, the first to Truckee, 11-0, and the second to South Lake Tahoe, 7-1.

Truckee scored five goals in the first nine minutes of the first game and cruised for the win.

Against South Lake Tahoe, Jeff Brooks scored for the Dust Devils on a 20 -yard shot from the side in the 27th minute of the first half before the Vikings took a 3-1 lead into half-time. It was Brooks' first goal of the season.

"We did a better job to hold our own in the second game", Dayton coach Karl Watts said. "We did a better job of competing."

Dayton runners pull

off sweep at home

Dayton got wins in the boys' and girls' races at its own meet Friday as Aaron Elissa and Katrina Breithaupt both outpaced the field.

With nine teams competing on the 5k course, Elissa finished with a time of 18.10. Breithaupt covered the course in 21 minutes and 28 seconds.

Fallon won the boys team competition with 40 points. Spring Creek finished second with 43 points and Dayton had 46 to come in third.

For the girls teams, Spring Creek won the meet with 39 points while Fernley came in second with 43. Dayton was a distant third with 98 points.

Other boys finishers for Dayton were Joe Law, 5th place at 19:07; Skyler Rose, 7th place at 19:19; Nick Langstaff 18th at 21:17, and Phillip Hevener 25th at 21:56.

Hanna Elissa was 10th place in 26:12, Samantha Hinton was 23rd in 30:57 and Isabella Anderson was 28th in 33:33.

JV FOOTBALL

Carson slams Reed

Nolan Shine passed for 310 yards and rushed for 62 more to spark Carson to a 50-14 win over Reed Thursday night.

Corey Reid added 150 total receiving yards (five passes resulting in three touchdowns) and went 6-for 6 in extra points.

Dilin Rooker had 125 receiving yards en route to three TDs.

Shine had six tackles, while Kylar Perez and Brandon Mandoki each had four tackles. Josue Orozco and Jesse Medina made 3 tackles each.

GOLF

Dayton finishes sixth

DAYTON - Dayton High finished in sixth place in Thursday's 1A golf tournament at Dayton Valley Golf Club.

Lowry won with a 390 followed by Elko at 402 and Spring Creek at 452. Dayton had a 524.

Alexandra Jones led Dayton with a 128, Taylor Ingersoll 130, Kassandra Acosta 131 and Samantha Cassinelli 135.
