130 YEARS AGO

Over in the big meadows the Indians know how to catch fish and stay warm at the same time. Follow the river and occasionally you will find one fishing in his canoe, with one end filled with firewood with two to three inches of sand in the bottom of the middle with a bright fire blazing. Every once in a while he throws a glance of pity at the white man, who takes his chances from the snowy bank and out fishes him at a rate of about five to one.

100 YEARS AGO

A member of the house this morning stopped and viewed the cannons mounted on the Capitol lawn. He stated he voted to put them there, but is convinced they are in the wrong place. He thinks one should be placed between the governor's office and the Publicity Commission's place, and another in front of the treasury.

State Controller Schmidt has charged the books of the state with the receipt of $300,000 from the Boulder Project on the advice of the state attorney general.
