Sandpipers win state swimming title

The Sandpipers easily won the 2012 state swimming championship over Boulder City 7516.5-6937.5 at the Carson Aquatic Center.

The four-day meet wrapped up on Monday. Reno Aquatic was third with 2,469; Lakeridge was fourth with 1,312; Douglas was fifth with 1,055.5; team Rebel was sixth at 903; and the Carson Tigersharks were seventh at 652.

In the 11-12 girls' group, Kaly Branco was seventh in the 50 back at 32.43 and 18th in the 50 free at 29.34. Blanca Sosa was 15th in the 50 back at 34.84 and 21st in the 200 IM at 2:43.08. Eileen Flores was 28th in the 50 back (37.01) and Morgan Nelson was 28th in the 200 IM (2:49.80).

In the 11-12 boys' group, Brett Kolb was 12th in the 50 back (35.40) and 15th in the 50 free (30.33). Leonardo Miranda was 12th in the 50 free (29.39). A.J. Gutierrez was 24th in the 50 back (37.36) and 22nd in the 200 IM (2:55.25). Reece Canfield was 21st in the 200 IM (2:54.96). And Tristan Woslum was 28th in the 50 free (32.25).

The 13-14 girls were led by Ashley Meyer, who was 26th in the 500 free (5:12.98).

Tallon Rauch led the 13-14 boys with a 22nd in the 50 free (27.71) and 28th in the 100 back (1:12.35). Dagen Kipling was 23rd in the 100 back (1:08.67) and Jeremiah Hessig was 22nd in the 500 free (5:07.47).

The 15-18 girls were led by Eli Everest, who finished 14th in the 500 free (5:31.15). Abi Pittman was 20th in the 500 free (5:44.28). Sophie Holmes was 26th in the 50 free (27.24) and Vanessa Rauch was 23rd in the 100 back (1:06.64). Tim Grunert finished 29th in the 50 free (24.39).


Dayton looking for new Men's Club members

The Dayton Valley Palmer Club, the men's golf club at Dayton Valley Golf Club, is open to public membership and now accepting applications for the upcoming season. Any area male golfer age 18 or older can join by paying annual dues of $250. Dues for members who have a NNGA handicap with another golf club are $220.

The dues fee includes NNGA/GHIN number and handicap and entry into 10 tournaments including a skins game, Club Championship and two-day member-member tournament with four 9-hole formats. Also on the schedule are the member-guest and annual match play championship that require nominal additional entry fees. Palmer Club members also receive a discounted green fee on tournament days.

Membership can have monetary benefits as the Palmer Club paid nearly $11,000 in prize awards and skins in 2011 including a $1,600 gross and net skin game that is included in the membership dues.

The season begins on Saturday, March 17 with a 4-man green ball/scramble tournament.

Dayton youth football fundraiser slated

Dessert bingo for Dayton youth football will take place at 7 p.m. March 3 at Dayton High School.

The event will be a fundraiser for Dayton youth football and cheer squads. Cost is a $5 entry fee. Call 775-246-7100.
