ROUNDUP: WNC ends preseason schedule with win

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Western Nevada concluded its preseson schedule with a 4-3 win over Riverside Saturday afternoon.

WNC is now 11-5, and will play again in two weeks against Colorado Northwestern in its Scenic West opener.

Western Nevada used four pitchers in the series finale. The win went to Dylan Baker, who was on a predetermined pitch count. Baker worked the first four, allowing two hit and one walk while striking out six. The Wildcats' final pitcher, Rayne Raven, worked a scoreless ninth to pick up his third save of the season.

A.J. Herrnandez and Donald Glover each went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Hernandez also drove in a run. Dillon Ness doubled home a run for the Wildcats.


YOUTH SWIMMING

Sandpipers in the lead

The Nevada Sandpipers have a healthy lead after two days of the Nevada State SC Championships at the Carson Aquatic Center.

The Sandpipers have 2,523 points, while Boulder City is next at 1,958. The Reno Aquatic Club is third with 821 and the Lakeridge Swim Club is fourth with 535.5. The Douglas Dolfins are fifth with 343 and the Carson Tigersharks are sixth with 203.

Here are the top highlights by Carson swimmers:

Kaly Branco, 12, was fourth in the 100 back (1:07.62) and 13th in the 200 free (2:16.79) and swam a leg on the eighth-place 200 medley relay team along with Morgan Nelson, Kaitlyn Nelson and Blanca Sosa. They swam a 2:17,53.

Brett Kolb, 12, finished 14th in 2:24.42 for the 200 free and 14th in the 100 back (1:19.13). He teamed with Jesse Session, Reece Canfield and Tristan Woslum to finish sixth in the 200 medley relay. Canfield was 15th in the 50 breastroke, clocking a 41.11.

Dagen Kipling, 9, won the B final and finished ninth overall in the 100 breastroke. clocking a 1:11.04. Tim Grunert, 17, won the B final in the 100 back with a time of 1:02.04.

Vanessa Rauch was 19th overall and third in the C final of the 200 back (2:20.64). She swam a leg on the 14th place 400 medley relay team, which also included Abi Pittman, Sophie Holmes and Eli Everest. They were timed in 4:37.10. Everest was 22nd in the 200 free (2:05.55).

Stella Carroll, Ashlery Meyer, Christina Saenz and Charlee Bradley were 10th in the 13-14 400 medley relay with a 5:29.52. The Tigersharks' 13-14 B group was 11th. Nora Streng, Christy Krahn, Bridgette McKnight and Samantha Hinton clocked a 5:29.82.
