Traffic delays expected for triathlon

Motorists should expect delays and detours on some Carson City streets early Saturday morning as cyclists in the Expedition Man Triathlon ride through town.

The outside southbound lane of Carson Street will be closed from Musser Street to Fourth Street between 6 and 11 a.m. Second, Third and Fourth streets also will be closed between Carson and Curry streets during that time.

The race is Expedition Man's inaugural Endurance Festival featuring Nevada's first ultra-distance triathlon.

The course begins with a 2.4-mile swim at Zephyr Cove Resort. The 112-mile bike ride will include a 1,400-foot elevation drop into Carson City. The day ends with a 26.2-mile run along the Truckee River Trail, finishing at the Legends at Sparks Marina.

More than 200 athletes from around the world are expected to participate.

Carson City staff assisted with planning of the cycling route - highlighting the downtown area and historic district.

Cyclist will ride past the Governor's Mansion, west on Washington Street to Ormsby then Ash Canyon Road, Combs Canyon, through the Lakeview Division and continue en route to Washoe Valley.

Carson City Parks and Recreation Department will co-host with Walgreens the only aid station in Carson City.
