PREPS: Dayton baseball ends 7-game skid

DAYTON - Austin Lee and Skyler Berntson combined on a 1-hit shutout to lead Dayton to a 12-0 win in Northern 3A play Tuesday afternoon.

The loss snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Dust Devils, who have a week off before traveling to Fallon on April 11.

Lee worked the first three, fanning six and walking one. He allowed ROP's only hit in the second. Berntson worked the final two, striking out four and not walking a batter.

Dayton scored five in the first using a couple of errors, three walks, a hit by Payton Morena and a squeeze bunt by Jaret Reed.

The Dust Devils added three in the second and four in the fourth. The game ended after 4 1/2 innings on the 10-run rule.

GOLF

Carson takes third place

GENOA - Carson High's golf team finished third behind Bishop Manogue and Galena at Monday's weekly Sierra Invitational held at Genoa Lakes.

Bishop Manogue won for the third straight week with a 396, while Galena was second at 414 followed by Carson at 440, Douglas at 468, Damonte Ranch 478 and Wooster 539.

Nate Brown led Carson with an 82, while Andrew Cooper shot an 88 and Roman Smokey 89. Ben Drozdoff shot 90 and Danny Manning 91 to round out the Carson scorers.

Bishop Manogue's Drew McMillan shot a 4-under-par 68 to win medalist honors. The Miners shot the three lowest scores on the day.

Golfers return to action after Easter vacation.

JV BASEBALL

Damonte defeats Carson 2-1

RENO - Dom Norton pitched a complete game, striking out two in the loss to the Mustangs.

Brandon Allen drove in Carson's only run. Carson managed just four hits.
