PREPS: Douglas spikers top Damonte

The Douglas volleyball team knocked off Damonte Ranch in four games on Thursday. The Tigers won 25-10, 22-25, 25-19 and 25-22.

Douglas was led by Amanda Wartgow and Savannah Wood, who each had 10 kills; Wood added three blocks; Heidi Schefcik had 20 digs; Shawnee McFadden added seven digs; Hailey Sclafani added 30 assists and seven aces.

Douglas improves to 10-16 overall and 7-9 in league. Douglas won the JV game in two games. Damonte took the freshmen match in two games.

Dayton falls to Fernley

Dayton lost in three games to Fernley Thursday night, setting up a Tuesday match against Fallon with heavy playoff implications.

Dayton lost 23-25, 15-25 and 21-25 to the Vaqueros.

The Dust Devils were led by seniors Cora Jeffreys and Cassie Depew. Jeffreys had 24 assists and a dig. Depew had six kills and seven blocks. Madison Foley added 14 kills and seven digs.

Dayton, 8-9 in league, needs a win Tuesday against Fallon to ensure themselves a playoff spot. If not, Fallon, Fernley and Dayton could all end up tied and tiebreakers would decide who gets into the postseason.

YERINGTON WINS IN FOUR

Yerington lost the first game at Lovelock before the Lions won the next three to improve to 31-6 on the year Thursday night.

Yerington was led by Makenna Lommori with 16 kills, 16 digs, five aces and 23 assists; Brooke Aiazzi with 11 kills and 24 digs; Amber Veil with 19 digs and two aces; Savena Rogers with 17 assists; and Kelsey Soukup with 11 kills.

Yerington now rests until next weekend's playoffs.

SIERRA LUTHERAN TOPS EXCEL

The Sierra Lutheran volleyball team swept Excel Christian 25-13, 25-9 and 25-21. Tiffany Patrick nine aces, two kills and 23 assists and Hannah Ediss had an ace, 10 kills and two assists.

SLHS is second in league and will play at 4:40 p.m. Friday at Wooster against a 1A East team.

The JV team won in three games, the scores were 22-25, 25-16 and 15-11. Emily Fernandez had 11 aces, eight kills and block; Amy Westre had an ace, eight kills and a block; Katy Cobb had an ace, a kill and 20 assists; Natalie Echeverria had an ace, a block and 16 assists.

FOOTBALL

Carson JVs win big

The Carson JV football team knocked off Galena 31-6 on Thursday. Austin Shaffer started at quarterback for the team as Garrett Schafer was called up to varsity. Shaffer turned in a solid performance running for 112 yards on eight carries and completing 5-of-10 passes. Shaffer scored two rushing touchdowns.

Anthony Estrada carried five times for 25 yards and a score and two- 2-point conversions. Austin Kiesow scored once and had a 2-point conversion.

The defense played well for the Senators as Kyle Denning had three interceptions and Kiesow had one.

Carson is 8-0 heading into next week's season finale against Reno.
