Northern Nevada Pond Club presents Pond Tour 2011

Pond Tour 2011 will be held Saturday. The tour will examine the beauty of ponds and also show tour-goers how ponds can be integrated into any type of home landscape. Exchange ideas about pond construction and water gardening. Discover why the Japanese call koi the "Living Jewels."

This is a traveling tour through Carson City's and Douglas County's ponds.

The tour schedule includes Carson City Ponds from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Douglas County Ponds from noon to 4 p.m. Exact addresses and a map will be provided with purchase of tickets.

Ticket prices are $10 per person or $15 per couple. They are available at the Greenhouse Garden Center on Curry Street in Carson City; at Carson Valley Garden and Ranch, Highway 395 in Gardnerville; and at Plant IT Nursery on Centerville Lane in Gardnerville.

Help save endangered macaw

The Hyacinth Preservation Society Inc., for preservation of the endangered hyacinth macaw, is up for a grant that will enable it to continue rescuing birds, pay for medical care, food, etc., but votes are needed. People can vote a number of ways:

Nevada Business Connections July breakfast meeting

The next monthly Nevada Business Connections breakfast meeting will be at 8 a.m. July 20.

This breakfast features two presentations: Greg Mosier, dean of the College of Business from the University of Nevada, Reno; and Jeff Hardcastle, Nevada state demographer. Both will discuss their roles in economic development for Northern Nevada.

'Intro to Soroptimist' session offered

Carson City Soroptimists invite local businesswomen and those recently retired to an "Intro to Soroptimists" session at 5:30 p.m. Friday. The wine and cheese social will be held at the Marilyn Lewis State Farm Insurance office, 321 W. Winnie Lane, Suite 106.

Senior outing trip for July

Happy Senior Tours will go to Harveys on July 12.

The bus will load at 7:45 a.m. at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 901 Beverley Drive, and return to the center at 4 p.m.

Cost is $17. The casino will give each guest $10 in free play plus a food voucher for the day.
