Green Living Festival on Saturday in Lampe Park

Staff Reports

The 2010 Green Living Festival is 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Lampe Park in Gardnerville.

The annual event features exhibitors, workshops, food, and family activities in the Discovery Center.

Guest speaker is Matthew Stein, author of "When Technology Fails, a comprehensive manual on sustainable living skills."

He is owner of Stein Design and Construction and builds hurricane-resistant, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly homes.

Stein speaks at noon on "Peak Oil Prep and Making the Shift to Sustainability," and gives a presentation at 2 p.m. on remodeling and retrofitting homes to create fire- and earthquake-resistant buildings.

The Discovery Center will have activities for all ages: making smoothies on the bike blender, baking in solar ovens, butter making, activities with master gardeners and the Great Basin Outdoor School, a beekeeping presentation, and performances by Dr. Solar's Traveling Medicine Show and Suitcase Scalawags.

The Green Living Festival is free to the public and presented by the Sustainable Living and Renewable Energy Roundup, a volunteer-run educational nonprofit organization.

A full schedule of workshop presentations is at www.greenlivingfest.org
