The R-C Morning Report

Today is the Nevada Day holiday, so schools, local, county and state offices will be closed today, as will state banking institutions. Saturday is the parade celebrating Nevada's statehood, which took place Oct. 31, 1864.

There will be several Douglas County entries participating in Saturday's parade, including the Sheriff's Mounted Posse, the town of Minden, the Fighting Tiger High School Band, flag team, and drill team, and the Tiger Battalion JROTC marching unit and color guard from Douglas High School. The parade starts at 10 a.m. Trick or Treat is on Sunday.

By the time today's balloting is complete, around 40 percent of Douglas County active voters will cast a ballot. An active voter is someone who cast a ballot in the last election. In all, 10,983 people voted early or sent in an absentee ballot in the election. Douglas Democrats continue to lag Republicans in turnout in the election, with 44 percent of Republicans casting a ballot while only 36 percent of Democrats have. Independents still lag behind both parties.

It's warm out this morning, with 42 degrees in Minden and closer to 50 in the Gardnerville Ranchos. Today is forecast to be mostly cloudy with a high of 63 degrees. A chance of showers is supposed to develop tonight and go through Saturday. Expect the wind to kick up during the day on Saturday.
