Street closures for parade begin at 8 a.m.

A number of Carson City streets will be closed this morning for the Nevada Day Parade.

Beginning at 8 a.m. Carson Street from Winnie Lane to Fairview Drive will be closed to through traffic.

Also closed to through traffic will be Stewart Street from William to Carson streets.

Traffic will not be able to be cross Carson Street at Long, Adams, Park, Fleishmann, John, William, Washington, Robinson and Fifth streets.

Weather permitting, hot air balloons begin liftoff from Carson Street in front of the Carson Mall about 8 a.m.

The parade is set to begin at 10 a.m. immediately following a flyover of an F-18 Hornet and F-16 Falcon from the Fallon Naval Air Station and a C-130 Hercules from the Nevada National Guard.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office's command post is behind City Hall at Plaza and Fall streets. If anyone has problems, or if a child is found or lost, people should report to the command post for assistance.

Other law enforcement agencies assisting are the Reno Police Department, Washoe County Sheriff's Office, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Sparks Police Department, Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, Capitol Police and the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The parade should be over about 1:45 p.m. The roads are expected to be reopened by 3 p.m.

The National Weather Service is forecasting today's weather as a 50 percent chance of scattered showers before 11 a.m., then partly sunny with a high near 56 and winds to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Be sure to dress in layers and bring an umbrella just in case.

Tonight is expected to be mostly cloudy, with a low around 35 degrees.
