The sixth annual Carson Valley Harvest Festival is 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every weekend in October at the Corley Ranch, 859 Highway 395, a mile south of Pinenut Road in Gardnerville. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and children 3 to 17, free for children 2 and younger. Events include a talent show 3 p.m. Oct. 23, and Halloween costume contest, 3 p.m. Oct. 31. Community dance Saturday

Music and dancing in a smoke-free atmosphere at the Douglas County Senior Center's Fall Festival community dance, 7-10 p.m. Saturday, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds building, 920 Dump Road, Gardnerville. Music by Don & Nadine. Door prizes and 50/50 raffle. Cost, $5. Refreshments available for sale. Information, 783-6455.


Haunted Weekend

The Douglas County Historical Society's Haunted Weekend runs through Sunday. Ghost walks in Gardnerville, Mottsville Cemetery and Genoa. Cost, $5 per event. Information, 782-2555.


Spooky stories at library

Halloween programs are presented on Monday and Wednesday at the Douglas County Public Library in Minden. Tilly the Witch reads spooky stories for children 4 and older, 6 p.m. Monday. Children may dress in Halloween costumes, and will receive a Halloween treat bag to take home.

Tilly reads "Making Friends with Frankenstein: A Book of Monstrous Poems and Pictures," by Colin McNaughton, and "The Spook Matinee: And Other Scary Poems for Kids," by George Ulrich. Special pop-up books and a flashlight story will be featured. Tilly ends the program with her favorite poem, "Spider on the Floor."

Wear your Halloween costume for a free program for all ages, 4 p.m. Oct. 27, at the library. Tilly the Witch reads Halloween stories. The Douglas County Public Library is at 1625 Library Lane, Minden. Information, 782-9841 or douglas.lib.nv.us


Haunted Doll House

The Students Taking on Prevention (STOP) Haunted Doll House is 5-9 p.m. Oct. 29 in the culinary room at Douglas High School. Admission is $4, or $3 with a canned food item to benefit Backpack Buddies.


Dake House Spirit Tour

The annual Dake House Spirit Tour begins 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at 2242 Main St., Genoa. Thin Veil Investigators give tours of the house, built in 1872 by Genoa's first undertaker. Guides give an explanation of the spirit painting and give tours of the undertaking parlor. The Dake House, home of Antiques Plus, is listed in the "Encyclopedia of Haunted Places," and has been featured in "Unsolved Mysteries" and on News Channel 8. Bring flashlights and cameras. Trick or Treat Safety Street

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office's annual Trick or Treat Safety Street starts 3 p.m. Oct. 31 in Minden's CVIC Hall. Information, 782-9941.


Harvest festival Oct. 31

Celebrate Nevada Day, Halloween and Reformation Day at Trinity Lutheran Church's Harvest Festival, 2:30-5 p.m. Oct. 31. Children's games, food, and candy. Non-threatening costumes are welcome. Worship music at the Sierra Spirit Praise Service at 5 p.m. Trinity Lutheran Church is at 1480 Douglas Ave., Gardnerville. Information, 782-8153,


Harvest Festival

Calvary Chapel's Harvest Festival is 5:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Pinenut Road. Free food, drinks, games, candy, cookie decorating, cake walk, live entertainment. Admission is suggested donation of two unopened bags of candy per family. Non-frightening costumes encouraged. Information, 265-3259.
