Santa makes a stop at Holiday Gala

Santa will be here in only one week. On Saturday, Dec. 4, from 10 a.m. until mid-afternoon, Santa will be on the steps of the Gardnerville museum just waiting to have his picture taken with you and your family. Come see Santa and his elves because we will be there too.

This will be your only chance to see Santa in front of Douglas County Historical Society's authentic antique sleigh. Photos will be taken by professional photographer Craig Marshall and printed on site so you can take them home with you when you leave. Order as many as you want; photos are $5 apiece.

Come out for the Cookie Walk. Come out for the 14th annual Gallery of Trees and the Gingerbread House Decorating Contest. Come out for the specials in our Main Street Bookstore. Be sure to vote for all your favorite gingerbread houses and Christmas trees. This is the place to capture the Christmas spirit.

There is so much going on this special Saturday that DCHS won't even charge you admission to the museum and its events. We don't want you to miss a thing, including getting your loved ones the best Christmas gift ever - tickets to the upcoming melodrama, "Rolling Down to Gardnerville."

Dec. 4 is also the day that we will be having the drawing for the oil painting of "The Mustangs" by local artist Alice Cardelli Swett, valued at $1,500. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20. Come in a view this painting and then be sure to have your tickets so you can win it.

Come back to the Gardnerville museum at 7 p.m. Dec. 9, for the lecture series featuring Frank Ackerman. Frank came to Nevada in May 2005 as chief of operations and acting director at the Thunderbird Lodge Historic Site on Lake Tahoe. In October 2005 he became curator of education at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, where, since January 2007, he also served as acting museum director. Frank will be talking about the Central Pacific Railroad and the influence the discovery of the Comstock had on it.

Information about the Douglas County Historical Society at www.historicnevada.org or the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville at 782-2555. Remember, DCHS and its two museums in Gardnerville and Genoa don't receive any regular state or county funding. It's up to our members and friends to help keep our doors open.
