Watch for firefighters and fill the boot this weekend for MDA

East Fork Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local No. 3726, will be at Walmart on Topsy Lane today and Sunday promoting the Fill the Boot campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

"As we move into the holiday season, I know money is tight," said Walt Kesteloot, public relations chairman for Local 3726. "However, the financial needs of the MDA - its clinical research and local support programs for children afflicted by this disease - does not go way. Even the smallest donation is always appreciated because it all adds up at the end of the day."

Through the Fill the Boot drive, IAFF Firefighters in North America raised $27.8 million for the MDA last year.

The money is used by the MDA to support research programs, manage children's camps, and help MDA families cope. IAFF firefighters have supported the MDA for more than 50 years.

In addition to their Fill the Boot drives, Nevada firefighters volunteer at MDA summer camps, working directly with the camp counselors and the children.

"The true value of your donation is reflected in the faces of the children at MDA camp and the grateful parents who hold out hope that one day their child's disease will be cured," said Jeff Cates, East Fork firefighter and Boot Drive coordinator.
