The R-C Morning Report

The first primary race for a purely Douglas County office was set up on Friday when Independent American Bob Conner filed for clerk-treasurer. Conner forced a primary race between Republicans Ted Thran and Stephanie Brooks. Also filing on Friday were school board incumbents Sharla Hales and Thomas Moore. Roxanne Stangle joined the race for Minden Town Board. Election filing wraps up this week. The clerk's office is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday.

An Indian Hills man faces up to six years in prison and a $5,000 fine after allegedly threatening the mother of his child with a knife on Dec. 23, 2009. John Collins Jr., 40, was holding two knives behind his back when deputies burst in with guns drawn. He dropped the knives after deputies repeated an order to show them his hands. In court last month, Collins denied any intention to use the knife on the victim, though he did use it on the couch, carpet and other furnishings in the apartment. Collins is also eligible for probation.

The National Weather Service put the snow graphic back up for today under mostly cloudy skies. The snow may not fly, but the wind will blow, with southwest winds of 10-20 mph and gusts of up to 35 mph. Chance for precipitation is 30 percent today and tonight, but with little anticipated accumulation, I don't expect we'll need the snow shovel on Tuesday morning.
