Pinon Hills students find pen pals in Hawaii

Pinon Hills Elementary School is embarking on a new adventure in the form of communicating with other schools in other states, exposing students to various cultures and lifestyles.

Principal Rommy Cronin said she's excited to engage in a pen pal exchange with Kamehameha Schools in the state of Hawaii.

The pen pal exchange will start with kindergarten- second-grade classes. As the relationship grows, the school plans to participate in video conferences and various cultural exchanges with the Kamehameha Schools in Hawaii.

Pinon Hills Computer Tech Jon Van Pelt said the elementary school is the only one in Northern Nevada with a video club, PHES Mustang VidKids, that teaches the students video and multi-media production.

"We are also developing video conferencing so our teachers and classrooms can communicate in real time to others at remote locations," Van Pelt said.
