Meteorologist visits Valley students

Students at Pinon Hills Elementary School have been studying the weather for the last two months, including measuring and graphing temperatures, learning about severe weather phenomenon, and watching Channel 2 News to understand the job of a meteorologist.

Channel 2 News meteorologist Mike Alger shocked third-graders at Pinon Hills with a surprise visit Feb. 25.

They reacted as though they were seeing a movie star for the first time. One student asked, "Did you bring your limo with you?"

Alger was curious to find out what the third-graders had learned about weather. He tested their weather knowledge by asking them questions and was very surprised to discover how much they had learned.

Alger combined his expertise with what students already knew to give a whole new insight on weather and meteorology. He stood for a picture with all of the third-graders, and the students were sad that he then had to rush off to his "real" job to prepare for the Channel 2 evening news.

However, they were excited to see their picture and hear Alger mention his experience at Pinon Hills on the 5 p.m. broadcast that evening.

The third-graders and their teachers want to thank Alger for taking time out of his schedule to provide them with this memorable experience.
