Margaret 'Margie' Louise Giovacchini

A memorial service is 11 a.m. March 12 at St. Gall Catholic Church for native Nevadan and Gardnerville resident Margaret "Margie" Louise Giovacchini, 69, who died March 2, 2010, after a brief illness at the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center in Carson City.

A rosary will be recited prior to the Mass at 10:30 a.m., with a reception to follow in the hall. A private family service will be held at her inurnment at Hillcrest Cemetery in Smith Valley.

Born in Smith Valley on Feb. 10, 1941, to Ernest and Irma (Altman) Giovacchini she was the 13th of 17 children. She was raised a farm girl in Smith Valley, attended Smith Valley public school, and graduated from Smith Valley High School in 1959.

Upon graduation from high school, Mrs. Giovacchini worked at First National Bank in Carson City; tried her hand at business ownership by opening a small dress shop; and finished her working career with the State of Nevada Rural Clinics when she retired.

She was an avid gardener and enjoyed working with rich soil planting and caring for her garden. She was a devoted member and volunteer of St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville.

She was preceded in death by brothers Charles, Louis, Ernie, John, Richie, and Roy, and sisters Dorlene and Salene.

She is survived by brothers Lloyd of Smith Valley, Donnie of Fernley, and Dave of Boise, Idaho; sisters, Eda (Frederickson) of Lodi, Calif., Olga (Larson) of Carson City, Elsie (Tietjen) of Reno, Helen(Rieger) of Las Vegas and Irma (Crookshanks) of Carson City; and numerous, beloved, nieces and nephews across the country.

Arrangements are under the direction of Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, Yerington.
