Forged check case wrapped up

A Gardnerville man who was involved in cashing forged checks from the Village Motel was sentenced to a suspended 1-3-year sentence in Nevada State Prison.

Charles James Matthews, 50, told Judge Michael Gibbons the last time he used methamphetamine was Thanksgiving Day, the last day he was living at the motel.

Matthews said he cashed checks for ex-manager Sarah McKinnis, 34, who was sentenced in April to three years in prison.

Matthews said McKinnis would write checks out to him and ask them to cash them for her because she didn't have any identity.

Matthews was ordered to pay $4,336.13 in restitution.
