East Valley benefits least

EDITOR:

When the county and its commissioners (particularly Brady and Johnson) speak about the subsidies received by the various water funds, I wish they would speak accurately.

They all seem to feel that East Valley users got huge subsidies, but fail to recognize the truth.

If you study Michael Brown's May 6 PowerPoint chart of the subsidies from all sources you will see that Zephyr Water received the most dollars followed by Cave Rock.

However when you break it down to dollars per single family residential equivalent dwelling unit you will find that fairgrounds and sunrise customers received $33,500 each, Sheridan Acres $18,600 and on down the list until you get to the very bottom of $1,500 each for East Valley - the least of all.

The most stunning fact is that the consolidation plan proposes to spend another $75,000 per SFR EDU at fairgrounds for a total of $108,500 per SFR EDU. They have yet to tell us how come and for what.

Neither the staff nor commissioners know how many signed the petitions against the consolidation. Don't they want to know (or care) what their constituents think?

And Brown immediately rejected my proposal for a citizen oversight committee should the consolidation be adopted. Where is the transparency? What is he afraid of? Is there some hidden nefarious activity or games taking place? He claimed that the county could manage the consolidated fund, but they have yet to prove they have that capability.

If they have been working on the water issue since 1989, what have they been doing for the last 11 years besides mismanaging the funds? Did Kelly Kite, Dan Holler and Carl Ruschmeyer have their heads in the sand?

Do not adopt the proposed consolidation plan.
