DMV troubles

EDITOR:

I can attest to the DMV and the problems suffered by Mr. Tom Cashen in his letter of May 26. I renewed my auto license at the Minden courthouse in March. I gave them the registration and the insurance verification and paid by check.

I received my new tag and registration in about three days. Good. Then as Mr. Cashen experienced, I received that "letter" from Carson City DMV saying I did not have verification of insurance and "fill our this form and send it back." They wanted the VIN number, my insurance carrier and the policy number. I complied and mailed it the same day. About three weeks later I received a similar letter threatening to fine me if I did not reply, again. I drove up to Carson City, and stood in line to see an agent face to face. I showed him my insurance verification card and registration. Yes, I filled out the new form that was sent. He then told me I must contact my insurance carrier and have them contact the DMV to verify I was indeed insured. He then gave me a number to call "the DMV" to verify I was insured. I had called that "number" several times before and a recorded message said "all our agents are busy due to heavy amounts of calls, hang up and try again later." This is an impossibility to get through, and they know it.

I did contact my carrier and they did contact DMV. I received my "you're off the hook" letter from the DMV.

And now I will have to register two more cars in June. Heaven help us all.
