Stargazing at Dangberg Ranch Saturday

Nevada State Parks hosts a free stargazing event, 8-10:30 p.m. Saturday, at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park in Minden.

Members of the Astronomical Society of Nevada will provide telescopes for the public to view Venus, Mars, Saturn, galaxies and star clusters. You're welcome to bring your own telescopes.

The event begins with an introduction and lesson on using a telescope. Viewing starts around 9 p.m.

Visitors are encouraged to bring bug repellent, a flashlight with a red lens, a blanket, lawn chairs and a light jacket, water and snacks. No pets.

The Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park features buildings constructed between 1857 and 1920, including what was once one of the most prominent homes in Carson Valley. The site was settled in 1857 by Carson Valley pioneer Heinrich F. Dangberg, Sr.

Upcoming events at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park include the new "Carson Valley: A Community of Cousins," 4 p.m. June 11-13 and June 19-20. Cost is $3 adults, free for children under 13.

University of Nevada professor Cheryl Glotfelty gives a free lecture on Nevada's literary heritage, 10 a.m. June 19, at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park. No pets. Bring your own lawn chairs.

Regular guided tours of the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park are 10 a.m. Wednesday-Sunday, with 2 p.m. tours added Saturdays and Sundays. Cost is $3 adults, free for children under 13.
