Taxable sales down 6 percent in May

Douglas taxable sales for May dropped 6 percent compared to May 2009.

County merchants took in $40.09 million during the month, $2.5 million less than last year.

While still down, it's less than the 9.1 percent the county is off for the fiscal year, so far.

Carson merchants also posted a decrease of 5.8 percent.

Statewide sales tax was down 1.9 percent. Clark County merchants brought in $2.336 billion in taxable sales during May, according to Nevada Department of Taxation numbers issued today. That was a 1.4 percent decrease compared to the same month last year.
