Man admits robbing 82-year-old mother

A 59-year-old man pleaded guilty Monday to robbing his 82-year-old mother, and faces an additional 20 years because of the victim's age.

Gregory Kovner pleaded guilty to robbery of a person 60 years of age or older.

He faces up to 15 years in prison and was advised by District Judge Michael Gibbons that 20 years can be added to the sentence for the elderly enhancement for a total of 35 years.

Kovner also is eligible for probation.

According to reports, the victim said Kovner tied her to a chair with a rope and telephone cords and bound her hands and feet at her residence in Topaz Ranch Estates on Dec. 27.

She said he threatened to snap her neck and kill her. He also allegedly punched her in the face with a closed fist.

The elderly woman told deputies Kovner went out to start her truck and she managed to free herself and run barefoot to a neighbor's house where she called 911.

Kovner is in Douglas County Jail.

On Monday, he admitted taking checks, cash and credit cards. All other charges were dropped in exchange for his guilty plea.

Gibbons appointed a Special Advocate For the Elderly to represent the victim.

Sentencing is April 5.
