Baseball: Nevada's Stassi named WAC player of the week

DENVER - Nevada designated hitter Brock Stassi and New Mexico State pitcher

Dan Reid have been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference

Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for February 15-21.


Stassi, a junior from Yuba City, Calif. (Yuba City HS), helped the Wolf Pack

to a 2-1 record last week at Santa Clara. Stassi hit .818 (9-for-11) with

six runs scored, a double, two home runs and five RBI in three games. In one

stretch, Stassi had hits in six consecutive plate appearances. He finished

with multiple hits all three games. On the weekend, he had a 1.000 slugging

percentage and a .875 on base percentage.


Reid, a senior from Nasonworth, Neb. (NE Oklahoma A&M), threw 6.0 innings

against Missouri in his debut as an Aggie. Reid struck out seven batters and

walked one while giving up only one run which was unearned. Reid gave up

just five hits in six innings of work.
