Don't raise room taxes

EDITOR:

Gaming and sales tax revenues are down in Douglas County so the county commissioners vote to place a hotel room tax hike on the ballot. What is wrong with this picture?

We need to encourage people to spend money in Douglas County hotels and casinos, not tax them more.

Gov. Gibbons got it right when he recently said, "You do not raise taxes during a recession or a depression."

The county commissioners need to be reminded that their job, especially in a recession, is to find ways to cut spending, not to raise taxes.
