Rugger named principal of Meneley Elementary

Douglas County School District officials have announced the return of one of their own.

Former Douglas High Assistant Principal Becky Rugger has been selected as the new principal of Meneley Elementary School in the Gardnerville Ranchos.

Rugger, who left in 2009 for a principal position in Alpine County, also served as an assistant principal at Carson Valley Middle School.

Her career began as an elementary school teacher in Wyoming in 1984. When she moved to Douglas County in the 1990s, she taught kindergarten at Meneley before moving on to administration.

"You have discovered the challenges and joys of being a teenager. You have known the ups and downs of high school life. Now, you have the skills to make the best choices possible," Rugger said during the DHS 2009 graduation ceremony.

Her transition to Meneley is expected to occur within the next few weeks. In the meantime, the school will start with another district veteran at the helm: former assistant superintendent Nancy Bryant, who has come out of retirement to serve as interim principal until Rugger arrives.
