The R-C Morning Report

A preliminary hearing has been set for Nov. 4 for James Matlean, who is accused of killing Johnson Lane resident Benjamin Oxley. The hearing is expected to take two days during which the prosecution will have to convince a judge that a crime was committed and that Matlean could have committed it.

We'll be following up on two accidents that happened Wednesday, including on Kingsbury Grade and the vehicle versus bicyclist in downtown Minden. According to the NHP Web site this morning, a trooper was directing traffic at Highway 395 and 88 starting at 5:41 a.m. today, presumably because the traffic signal is down.

Today will be the last cool day for a while as a ridge of high pressure builds along the West Coast causing temperatures to climb 3-5 degrees each day through Sunday when highs will hit the 100s in the Valleys and 90s in the mountains. The highs will remain 10-13 degrees above normal through Wednesday before there's a possibility it will cool off.

Expect today to be sunny with a high of 83 degrees and a low of 47.
