Genoa seeking Candy Dance vendors

Genoa is still seeking vendors for its annual Candy Dance fundraiser.

According to Town Manager Sheryl Gonzales, the town had 237 booths booked as of Tuesday and is hoping to have 300 in time for the craft fair on Sept. 25 and 26.

She said applications are coming in three to five a day and that she is confident that the fair will be full.

With less than two months left until the event that raises the majority of the town's revenue, the operations committee met this week in preparation.

Candy making is expected to begin at the end of August.

Town Historian Billie Jean Rightmire is moving forward with plans to produce a cookbook for sale at Candy Dance.

The cookbook features 270 recipes of the pioneers, many from Rightmire's grandmother's cookbook.

The book is proposed to be 280 pages with biographies of many of the town's early settlers.

"It talks about what the pioneers saw when they came here, the wildlife and how to cook it."

Town Board Chairman Brian Williams' wife Stacy is proofing the book, which is being laid out by Genoa resident Jennifer Hollister and illustrated by Cecil Brown.

Williams said his favorite recipe is one that says "start with one bear."

Rightmire is proposing publishing 500 copies.
