Our July photo contest winner continued our patriotic theme with this shot of the Minden Gazebo dressed up for the Fourth. Congratulations to Cathy Stewart whose great photo was taken before all the bunting went missing.
Tomorrow is the annual Taste of the Towns. Will we see you there? We plan to be there and not to miss a thing. The food will be wonderful and the beverages cooling and refreshing. And being girls, we love stopping to browse in the shops. If you still don't have tickets, call 782-2555 today. Members of DCHS or Thrivent for Lutherans get a $5 discount off their ticket price.

Shops either along the walk or in the parking lot include Cheshire Antiques, Ruby Rose City & Saddle Clothes, Country Carousel/CJS Floors, Whiskers & Paws Catering and AR Jewell Enterprises.
Our evening of tasting and shopping would not be complete without music. Ben Crocker will be performing at the Museum parking lot and Mike Maloney will be at JT's. Wear shoes comfy enough for waking but snazzy enough for dancing.
Thursday, August 12, is the next lecture series. Ed and Debora Delaney tell us about a prison break in Carson City in 1871. Their latest book is "Quest For Freedom," a work of historical fiction that chronicles the infamous 1871 Nevada State Prison break. That event saw 29 hardened criminals escape from the Carson City facility to rampage throughout the eastern and western Sierra Nevada. Admission is $3 per person or free for DCHS members.
Now open for your submissions is the August photo contest. Photos need to be of something in Douglas County and something representative of August around here. Some obvious candidates would be the Taste of the Towns or the Farmers' Markets or even the local car shows. Pick whatever subject you think best represents August here at home and submit your photo to the email address below or directly to the Gardnerville museum. The winner will be announced in September and will complete our calendar for 2011.
