Baseball: Cougars strong at World Series

The Carson Valley Cougars travelling baseball team had a strong showing at the USSSA World Series in Chino Hillls, Calif. last week.


They finished the tournament going 3-1-1 but an eight-inning tie in the opener cost the team a spot in the championship bracket.


Carson Valley tied the Mesa Halos in the first game and lost the second 6-4 to the SoCal Outlaws.


They beat the Oceanside Lancers 16-6 in the third and beat the Denver Cardinals 8-4 with Chase Johnson pitching a complete game in the consolation bracket.


The Cougars captured the consolation bracket title with a 15-0 win over the Mesa Halos in three innings.


Carson Valley finished the season 42-24. The team played in tournaments in Northern California, Southern California, Lake Tahoe and Omaha, Neb.


The team is comprised of local players Logan Fencl, Kaleb Foster, Cale Kynett, Chase Johnson, Dillon Lopez, Matt Santos, Dylan Rooker and players from Carson, Dayton and South Reno.


Carson Valley was coached by John Fencl with assistants Cal Lewis, Alex Sigheri, Kyle Fencl, Teddy Foster, Bruce Jacobsen and scorekeeper Derrick Lopez.
