Weekly storm due on Tuesday

What seems to have become a weekly storm front is due to arrive in Western Nevada on Tuesday bringing high winds and cooler temperatures.

Residents should expect temperatures to dive 20-25 degrees by Wednesday, after a brief period of rain in the Valley and snow in the mountains, according to a National Weather Service statement issued this morning.

The snow level will start out at 8,000 feet on Tuesday morning and drop through the day. Because most of the moisture is ahead of the front, it will fall as snow above 6,000 feet.

That could mean a chance that Sierra rivers could rise, though no flooding is expected.

Rain will change to snow behind the front for lower elevations on Tuesday night.

Expect winds to pick up late Monday morning with gusts of up to 30 mph, increasing through the day and into early Tuesday morning, when gusts will blow nearly 50 mph.

About a third of an inch of rain is expected on Tuesday, with very little snow falling over night.
