Charles Edward Hendrickson

A memorial service is 11 a.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at Spruce Street and Deseret Drive for 12-year Gardnerville resident Charles Edward Hendrickson, 78, who died April 19, 2010, in Reno after being hospitalized for three weeks.

Born Jan. 30, 1932, in Holdredge, Neb., to Leslie and Caroline Edith (Hoppe) Hendrickson, he attended high school in Holdredge and joined the U.S. Air Force. He served 10 years with the military police, much of it at Stead Air Force Base where he worked closely with the Reno Police Department.

When he was discharged, he became a Reno police officer, working in the patrol department, and then in the traffic department where he spent 20 years before retiring in May 1984.

Mr. Hendrickson is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pauline Olsen and Joan Anderson; and son Dennis Keith Hendrickson.

He is survived by wife Minnie (Hansen); sons Robert of Reno and Michael (Ramona) of West Jordan, Utah; daughter Teresa (Rob) Rose of Gardnerville; grandchildren Amy, Luke and Zach, Christopher, Michelle (Tyler) Evison, Nathan, Diana, Daniel, Laura and Alli; great-grandson Connor Whitney; sister Lois (Bud) Ericson of Holdredge; and seven nieces and nephews.

A private family interment will take place at a later date. Donations may be made in his name to the American Heart Association.
