A Sacramento man who allegedly ran from police during a traffic stop Thursday afternoon was arrested later that evening hiding in a crawl space under a home on Jeanell.
Michael Marks, 34, was booked into the Carson City Jail on suspicion of three counts of gross misdemeanor child endangerment, misdemeanor evading police and felony assault and felony burglary warrants out of Sacramento.
According to the arrest report, Marks was driving an unregistered Cadillac El Dorado when a deputy pulled him over about 4:30 p.m.
When he kept trying to exit the vehicle, the officer said she ordered him at gunpoint to return to his car. Marks did as requested but allegedly began to drive away in the parking lot.
When another vehicle unknowingly blocked his exit, he stopped his car again, jumped out and ran, the report states.
Inside the vehicle, the deputy found a 34-year-old woman with a barking Chihuahua, a 15-year-old girl with a newborn baby, and the baby's 17-year-old father. The 34-year-old woman said Marks demanded she come to Carson City with him, so she went along with his demands fearing he'd hurt the others. The woman declined to file a kidnapping report.
Around 7:30 p.m. after canvassing the area and asking several people if they'd seen the fleeing man, officers found Marks hiding in a crawl space in the 200 block of Jeanell Drive. He was arrested without incident.
Marks is being without bail on the felony assault warrant out of Sacramento. The bail on the burglary warrant is $250,000.
