Douglas County Historic Society's Emigrant Train Barn Tour May 22

Staff Reports

The Douglas County Historical Society's Historic Emigrant Trail Barn Tour is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 22. Cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members.

Ticket holders will have an opportunity to tour some of the first barns built in Nevada and free admission to the Genoa Courthouse Museum and the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville. Also included is a free lecture and slide presentation about the Emigrant Trail through Carson Valley.

The barn tour is held in May as part of Historic Preservation Month. The Emigrant Trail and ranching played a vital role in the early history of Nevada and especially Carson Valley. That is why the historical society decided to feature some of Nevada's most historic barns. These historic barns represent the early families that struggled to make this such a beautiful place that we all enjoy today.

The Douglas County Historical Society's goal is to show importance of preserving these and other historic structures in the community. Also how old and new can co-exist in harmony.

Proceeds from the Historic Emigrant Trail Barn Tour benefit the Douglas County Historical Society and help with the operation of the Genoa Courthouse Museum and the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville.

For information and reservations call 782-2555. For those who wish to order tickets early and pay by credit card there is an additional $1 charge for postage and handling.
