Ex-felon gets probation for having firearm

A 53-year-old Holbrook woman was sentenced Monday to a suspended four-year prison term for being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm.

Myra Hamontree said she had made some mistakes in the men she had in her life.

"I don't plan on having a man in my life," she told Judge Michael Gibbons. "I've made some bad choices in men."

The man in this case was her husband, whom she allegedly pointed a shotgun at after she had been drinking.

Hamontree will remain in custody of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office while waiting for a spot in a treatment program lasting between six months and a year.

Hamontree was convicted of two prior felonies, but had not previously had a violent offense.

She told Gibbons she was divorcing her husband.

Gibbons placed her on three years probation. Should she fail probation she would have to serve a minimum of one year in prison before she would be eligible for parole.
