Seasonal flu shots available at Carson Valley Medical Center

Staff Reports

According to the Center for Disease Control, the single best way to prevent the flu is for individuals to get a vaccination each fall. Carson Valley Medical Center is offering seasonal flu vaccinations 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 3 for Medicare and self-pay patients. No appointments are necessary. Please note that this is not an H1N1 vaccine.

The vaccination may be administered by shot or nasal spray. The flu shot, which is an inactivated vaccine (containing killed virus), is administered by needle in the arm. It is available for adults 18 and older. Cost is $25.

The flu mist nasal spray is made with live weakened flu viruses that do not cause the flu. Flu mist is available for adults ages 18-50 at a cost of $30.

Carson Valley Medical Center is at 1107 Highway 395, Gardnerville. Information at the medical center's Occupational Health Department, 782-1615.
