Head 'em up, move 'em out

A herd of grazing cows are helping Douglas High School members of Carson Valley FFA raise money to compete in horse judging, ag sales and floriculture at the national FFA contest in Indianapolis in October. If the herd is found grazing in your yard, students will round them up for $20, and for $25 the herd may be moooved to a home or business of your choice. Cows may also be purchased for $5. Teen dance tonight

Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department sponsors a teen dance for sixth-to eighth-grade students, 6:30-9 p.m. today, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds building. DJ music by Bill McClain's Mobile Music. Cost of $10 includes a pizza slice and drink. Snacks available for purchase. Students must arrange their own transportation ahead of time and need to be picked up at 9 p.m. Middle school students must bring student ID. Information at recreation department, 782-9828.


Walk in memory Saturday

The third annual Memory Walk in honor of those lost to suicide is 8-11 a.m. Saturday at Heritage Park, Gardnerville. Participants walk three miles on Highway 395, beginning and ending at the park. Registration, $20, includes T-shirt. Information, Debbie Posnien, 782-8611.


Austin's House anniversary

Families are invited for refreshments, photos with Casey the Crocodile and tours of Austin's House at the facility's second anniversary, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, at 3589 N. Sunridge Drive, behind the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Substation.

Spaghetti dinner at Fish Springs

Fish Springs Volunteer Fire Department's annual spaghetti dinner and hoedown is 5:30 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Fish Springs station, at Myers Drive and Fish Springs Road. All you can eat dinner and no-host bar. Live music by Long Shot. Cost, $8 for adults, $4 for children under 12. Information, 782-4344.


Anniversary service

St. Gall Catholic Church celebrates 90 years in Carson Valley with Mass at 10 a.m. Sunday in the pastoral center followed by a traditional Basque lunch and games for children. Information, 782-2852.


Celebration service

Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church celebrates their new church with a worship service, 4 p.m. Sunday, at 3680 Highway 395, south of Best Buy in Carson City. Information, 267-3680.


Family bicycle tour

The Discover Carson Valley family bicycle tour is Sept. 19. Registration is 8:30 a.m. at the Copeland Cultural Arts Center, 1572 Highway 395, Minden. Refreshments at 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Design your own route with a choice of four routes ranging from 5-25 miles in Minden, Gardnervile, East Valley and Fish Springs. Helmets required.
