Tigers to clash with Huskies tonight

Tonight, the Douglas football team will be looking to bounce back from a big loss last week against a team looking to do the same thing.

The Tigers will be trying to get past a 48-21 defeat at Las Vegas as they meet up with Reno, which is still reeling from a 34-20 defeat at the hands of the up-and-coming Galena Grizzlies.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Douglas and Reno have met up eight times since 2002, evenly splitting the series since then at four wins each. It's been so even, in fact, that neither team has won consecutive matchups during the same span. Also of note, neither team has been able to defend its home turf in the last six meetings with the visiting school winning each of those matchups.

Douglas won last year's matchup 23-6 in Reno but Reno beat the Tigers 21-7 in Minden in 2007.

Reno shifted away from its traditionial power running game to a spread offense during the offseason, which could be a tough test for the Tiger defense.

Vegas employs a similar shotgun spread and blasted Douglas for 577 yards, including 320 through the air, last week.

Reno's Nick Bietz completed 16 of 25 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns against Galena last week. He was also the Huskies' top rusher, piling up 124 yards on 24 carries.

Bietz spread the ball out to five receivers on the night, including six passes for 58 yards to Connor Morze and four passes for 73 yards to Trevor McElroy.

Chance McClure was the only other Reno player to carry the ball on the night, finishing with six carries for 28 yards.

Offensively, Douglas' Zack Williams completed 18 passes for 96 yards and ran for 19 yards on five carries in his varsity debut last week while Johnny Pollack led the team in rushing with 12 carries for 40 yards and two touchdowns.

Ryen Ake carried five times for 31 yards and Jordan Cruz carried seven times for 19 yards.

Danny King caught six passes for 30 yards to lead the Tiger receivers.

The game will also serve as Douglas' Hall of Fame game, where they'll induct the 2009 class to their football hall of fame.
