Swine flu vaccine available in Carson

Douglas County residents who are members of the priority population for the swine flu vaccination can obtain one by going to the Carson City Health Department, located at 900 E. Long St. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays and 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. Thursdays. The first doses were given out on Thursday to pregnant women, people caring for infants, healthcare and emergency medical services personnel, people 6 months through 24 years old, and people who are 25-64 years old and have chronic health disorders. A spokeswoman said Douglas County will be coordinating to provide the vaccine in the schools sometime in the near future.

While most of the vaccine is the FluMist, the health department does have some shots available for those who don't qualify for the live virus.

Orange County residents Joseph and Janet Quick visited The Record-Courier offices on Tuesday.

Joseph's brother-in-law was Tom Dickerson, who with Tony Payton owned The R-C for five years between 1965 and 1970.

Joseph said he helped Dickerson repair the newspaper's Linotype machine, located in the building on Eddy Street.

"In those days there was nothing here," Joseph said.

As for Tom, he's running a sports bar in Mesa, Ariz.

Former R-C People Editor Karel Ancona-Henry and co-author Dana Fruend will be at D'Vine Wine & Bistro, 200 Stewart St., 1-3 p.m. Oct. 31 to sign their book "Irish Flame's Biker & Travel Guide to Nevada, Vol 1."

The 272-page book is published by moonbeanpublishing.com and is a travelers' guide to Nevada.
