Storey County man charged in woman's fatal beating

RENO, Nev. (AP) - A 22-year-old Nevada man has been jailed in Storey County on suspicion of murder after he allegedly fatally beat a woman who denied his request for a cigarette.

Ryan Bonnett is accused of killing 47-year-old Eileen Pruitt Sunday night.

Storey County Assistant Sheriff Gerald Antinoro says the woman was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno where she died following surgery. He says witnesses told deputies that Bonnett became upset because the woman had refused to give him a cigarette.

The suspect is being held without bail on suspicion of open murder. Police records show he was arrested in Reno in 2007 with a group of other men on suspicion of resisting arrest after they fled a vehicle during a traffic stop.
