County anti-business

EDITOR:

I thought that when we moved here to Gardnerville it would be like moving to a rural place with more freedom and not so much governmental interference. Boy was I wrong.

A few weeks ago, our way too exuberant police force staked out a local chiropractor's house (Dr. Craig Black) to arrest him for a bounced check that was under $500, which was an accident on his part. For this, he was held three plus days in jail. That, I thought, was way over the top. Now we have the Douglas County commissioners going against the wishes of the town of Gardnerville and the planning commission, to the demise of a local establishment (Hamdogs) that is just trying to survive. Government is against small business and also against the poor property owner who wants to keep his property full of tenants and not have it look so blighted.

This just takes the cake. I am with Dr. Black and the owner of Hamdogs. At the first chance I will be looking at an exit plan from this county. We are, unfortunately, stuck here due to the poor economic state of the real estate market. I surely wish we had rented here before buying all the real estate we did. All I can say is, at voting time it will be "out with the old and in with the new" all over the ballot.
