The R-C Morning Report

There's been lots of talk of flu season, but not much of flue season. We had one of the first chimney fires of the fall on Pioneer Trail Tuesday night. As the season gets colder, more people will be using their fireplaces and woodstoves and there will be a lot more of these.

The good news about last night's Minden-Tahoe Airport workshop is that it had one of the best turn-outs. The bad news was that turnout consisted of eight people. The next step is for airport officials to compile the comments, and then work out a recommendation for the county commissioners at their November meeting. It will be December before there's a decision on the county level.

On Tuesday afternoon, the sheriff's office received a report of a suicidal subject threatening to drive off a cliff. They were able to find him after about 90 minutes, OK, but so intoxicated they had to call the medics. It's the second day in a row we've had one of these. On Monday, deputies were in a five-hour standoff with an alledgedly suicidal subject, who claimed to be armed. After tasering the person, deputies learned that wasn't true.

Today is going to be sunny with a high in the mid-60s. Forecasts of high temperatures in the 70s may have been a little over exuberant. We might see low-70s by Sunday. The next precipitation will be Tuesday, maybe.
