Hockey: Sharks lose Pavelski for at least 2 weeks

Center Joe Pavelski will be out of the lineup due to injury for the San Jose Sharks' next several games.

Coach Todd McLellan was not specific about the injury, but did say the 25-year-old forward underwent minor surgery on Monday.

"He was hurt the other night [Saturday] and had a minor procedure this morning," McLellan told the team's website after practice. "He will be out a couple of weeks with a lower body injury."

Pavelski had two assists so far for the Sharks, who have split their first two games.

The Plover, Wis., native blossomed in his third full season in the league in 2008-09. He set career highs with 25 goals and 34 assists. The Sharks selected him in the seventh round of the 2005 NHL entry draft.

San Jose returns to action Tuesday in Los Angeles.
