Saddle-trained horses up for adoption Oct. 10

Fifteen saddle-trained horses from the ranges of Nevada will graduate from months of training and are looking for good homes and enthusiastic owners through an adoption event Oct. 10 at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center off Snyder Avenue in Carson City.

The Bureau of Land Management, the Nevada Department of Agriculture & the Nevada Department of Corrections invite horse lovers and the general public to a special horse adoption event in Carson City on Oct. 10.

Public access to the corrals opens at 9 a.m. Competitive bid adoption conducted by an auctioneer at 10 a.m. Beginning bids on all horses is $150.

The horses are 3-5 years old in various weights and colors, and have 120 days of saddle training by inmates in the Nevada Department of Corrections program.

Information and a catalog of BLM wild horses offered for the Oct. 10 adoption may be viewed at www.blm.gov/nv Copies available at BLM offices in Reno and Carson City. To prequalify for adoptions, call 885-6146.

Enter the Northern Nevada Correctional Center off Snyder Avenue on the south side of Carson City. From Highway 395, take Snyder Avenue east for 1.5 miles to the entrance to the Northern Nevada Correctional Center. Turn right (south) and watch for signs and event personnel giving directions to the horse corrals and parking.

Northern Nevada Correctional Center rules prohibit the public from wearing any blue clothing, blue jeans, tank tops or shorts. No cell phones, cameras or recording devices.
