What about cross country?

I am reading your "Our Take" section on the Opinion page and have to respond to your report.

I am so thrilled for the soccer team, but there is a mistake in your report that there hasn't been a "school's first team state title since Douglas volleyball players won in 1998." I coached the Douglas girls' cross country team in 1998 and we won the state title as well.

We went with the volleyball team for recognition at the Nevada State Legislature that year. In 1997 we had a very close brush with victory and the girls were determined the next year and won every meet. Annie Gastelum was the homecoming queen that year and had to rush from her crowning ceremony to get to the airport to participate in a meet in Las Vegas.
