BLM hosts workshop on power line alternatives

The Bureau of Land Management Carson City District Office will host

a workshop to develop alternatives for the proposed Blackhawk to Heybourne

120 kV transmission line draft environmental impact statement that is

currently under way. The public is invited to attend the workshop

4-6 p.m. Dec. 9at the BLM Carson City District Office, 5665 Morgan Mill Road.

The statement will analyze the impacts resulting from construction of a new 120

kV electrical transmission line and two new substations proposed in a

right-of-way application from Sierra Pacific Power Co., operating

as NV Energy. The grant would be issued from BLM to authorize NV Energy

to construct, operate and maintain the transmission lines across federal

public lands in portions of Storey, Lyon, Carson City and Douglas counties.

An initial public scoping meeting on the proposed project was held in

October 2008.

The BLM has been working with the cooperating agencies to develop

alternatives for the project and is now inviting the public to re-engage in

the process.
