Soccer: JV girls close out season with win

The Douglas JV Girls' soccer team took on the Carson City Senators on Oct. 24th at an away match that was much anticipated after the previous meeting ending with a 1-1 tie.  Except for the Carson goal that was scored in the 12th minute of the first half, both teams were pretty evenly matched.

The Lady Tigers seemed deflated but, came onto the field after halftime with renewed energy. The Senators struck again late in the game to finish it off with a 2-0 win.

Douglas finished off its season hotsing Fallon on Oct. 26.

This was no match for the Tigers as Alli Chambon scored from midfield in the second minute of the game.

Douglas struck again with Kaitlyn Varble scoring outside the 18-yard line in the ninth minute of play.

Kelsie Martinez knocked one in with a pass from Marissa Cowan in the 17th minute.  Aspen Abbott got on the board late in the first half when she collected a pass from Martinez.  Kaelin Mejia shot a goal past the goalie just before half-time.

The second half showed fewer goals for the Tigers but, Chambon knocked her second of the day in the Greenwave net in the 10th minute of play off a corner kick from Savannah Roberson.  The final score was 6-0.

The defense was as solid as ever and only allowed about 5 saves for Tiger goalie, Ericka Munoz.  Jillian Olivera, Kelly Tompkins, Lacey Marsh, Gabby Chavira, Roberson and Kelsey Mehrer kept the ball moving forward and out of harms' way.

The Junior Varsity had a very commendable season with a final record of 8-2-2 with only 10 goals scored against them in 12 games.
