Do just one thing for daily needs drive

The Sierra Nevada Active 20-30 Club 730 sponsors the Daily Needs Drive for the Family Support Council of Douglas County as a part of the Purple Ribbon Coalition's Just One Thing campaign, starting Monday and running through Nov. 20.

Frequently used articles - sheets, towels, cleaning and paper products, personal items - are needed at the Family support Council. Needed items listed at www.sierranv2030.org

Collection boxes are at GE Energy, BodyWise Physical Therapy & Fitness, Carson River Community Bank and BodyWise Physical Therapy & Fitness.

"As we start into the holiday season, many of us would like to contribute to those less fortunate," said Jennifer Motti, president of Sierra Nevada Active 20-30 Club. "The Just One Thing Daily Needs Drive enables us to come together as a community, to do one small, simple thing, but to make a powerful difference for people that really need it."

"Family violence affects individuals the whole year through," said Kristie M. Traver, Executive Director, Family Support Council. "The holidays are a time when we typically think of family, but unfortunately families in the shelter too often go without."

Needed items may be dropped off at collection boxes at one of the following businesses. Tax receipt is available. GE Energy, 1631 Bently Parkway, Minden; BodyWise Physical Therapy & Fitness, 1667 Lucerne St. in Minden Village; Carson River Community Bank, 951 Jacks Valley Road, Carson City or BodyWise Physical Therapy & Fitness, 931 Mica Drive, Unit 1, Carson City.

The Family Support Council envisions and works toward ending family violence in the community by providing assistance to victims and preventing violence in family relationships. They offer a 24-hour domestic violence/sexual assault crisis line, emergency shelter, court advocacy, support groups, parenting education classes, community education and outreach and information and referral services. The Active 20-30 Club is an international, nonprofit organization comprised of local clubs that raises funds for special needs children in the community. Celebrating its 10th anniversary in the Carson Valley in 2009, the Sierra Nevada Active 20-30 Club annually donates thousands of dollars in support of local charities and children's groups, including Kids and Horses, Tahoe Youth & Family Services, Family Support Council, Boys & Girls Clubs and Austin's House.
